A new way to look at care.
Complete Health Dentistry of Portland is now offering two molecular tests that provide supplemental information about a patients periodontal, or gum, condition. This information can be used to develop patient-specific treatment plans for periodontal disease therapy and to help establish the therapy endpoint.
These two salivary diagnostic tests are MyPerioPath ® and MyPerioID ™. Specifically, the MyPerioPath test measures the levels of eleven different species of bacteria known to trigger periodontal disease. In addition to identifying the specific bacteria, the test provides a bacterial-related risk of disease progression and guide in tailoring an individualized treatment plan for you.
The MyPerioID test detects genetic changes in your DNA that have been associated with increased incidence and /or progression of chronic periodontal disease. These changes can be an indication of how susceptible you may be to developing gum disease.
Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the gum tissue and other structures supporting the teeth. If left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss and have a significant negative impact on your general health. Besides helping with tooth retention, successful periodontal treatment can help patients with diabetes and heart disease to improve their health. Several research studies have associated gum disease with other chronic inflammatory diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Dr. Dowsett is pleased to be one of the first dental practices in the Portland area to utilize these two salivary diagnostic tests, enhancing his ability to provide the finest care.
